February - American Heart Month

The Impact of Omega-3s on Heart Health:

It’s time to talk about the most important ticker in your entire life. Your heart! February is American Heart Month, sponsored by the AHA (American Heart Association). Res-Q Natural Supplements began with a focus on heart health and preventing early problems. Heart disease is the No. 1 cause of death in America and has affected almost every family, including the founder of Res-Q, Dr. Tim Shield. That’s why he spent his life working to optimize everyone’s heart health, so they can live a better life through their elder years. So, let’s go over the importance of maintaining a healthy heart, avoiding unhealthy habits, and the supplements that optimize our bodies.

Why should I take Omega-3s?

Lower Triglycerides
Studies have shown for years that the most steadfast evidence for an omega-3s impact on heart health is their ability to lower triglyceride levels. Triglycerides are a type of fat found in your blood. ‘When you eat, your body converts any calories it doesn't need to use right away into triglycerides. The triglycerides are stored in your fat cells. Later, hormones release triglycerides for energy between meals. If you regularly eat more calories than you burn, particularly from high-carbohydrate foods, you may have high triglycerides.’

Res-Q 1250 contains 690 mg of EPA and DHA, which are the two most researched omega-3s. The EPA in 1250 is the omega-3 that helps to lower triglycerides, as well as, support a balanced inflammatory response and optimal cardiovascular function. Findings show that the EPA is directly involved in reducing the risk of heart events.

Reduced Risk of Abnormal Heart Beat
‘When your heart beats abnormally, it is referred to as an arrhythmia. Some arrhythmias are harmless but others, such as atrial fibrillation (AFib), can increase the risk of stroke or other serious heart issues.’ In a study performed by the Harvard School of Public Health Research, people with higher than average levels of omega-3s may be roughly 30 percent less likely than those with low levels of omega-3s to develop an abnormal heartbeat.

Res-Q O3 MAX is a re-esterified triglyceride version of the omega-3, which is a more concentrated supplement. This means you’ll only need four capsules a day to get the daily amount of EPA and DHA needed for their health benefits.

Slows Plaque Buildup
If plaque builds up in your arteries, it can limit the flow of blood throughout your body. Again, there is an association between omega-3s and a reduced risk of heart attack and stroke. ‘Omega-3s have anti-oxidant and anti-inflammatory effects and may also improve the function of the endothelial cells that line blood vessels, so intake might have benefits for cardiovascular disease, but this has not been well-established in clinical trials yet.’

Res-Q 2500 TG is another one of our omega-3s supplements, but it is in a pure triglyceride form and in a mini easy-to-swallow softgel. These can be used as a substitute if you prefer the smaller capsule option.

Lower Blood Pressure
High blood pressure is dangerous for your health and can lead to several issues. It can damage your arteries, cause chest pains, and, eventually, can lead to heart disease. ‘Systolic blood pressure (amount of pressure in your arteries during the contraction of your heart muscle) and diastolic blood pressure (amount of pressure in your arteries between beats) have both been shown to be reduced when individuals have been given higher doses of omega-3s.’ Often, there may be no symptoms, but if unchecked and untreated can cause heart disease or stroke.
